Hockey!!

As "Badger" Bob Johnson may have said, "It's a great weekend for hockey!" What a weekend!

The skating women ripped it up at the Mariucci Arena, defeating Minnesota for their first NCAA championship.

Meanwhile over in Green Bay, the men took on Cornell and defeated them in six long, scoreless periods to earn their way into the Frozen Four. They'll play in two weekends against Maine to get to the championship game and top off an excellent year for Badger Hockey!

The Frozen Tundra

Although NFL football is now over, this weekend will see a very big game played up in Titletown, the Frozen Tundra Classic, where the Badgers will be facing off against Ohio (is not a) State. The ice is down over the gridiron and Lambeau Field will be alive with not green, but red on Saturday.

The Hockey Badgers, currently first in the WCHA, are in somewhat of a slump right now, but hopefully they'll pull through and get a win against these bitter rivals and turn the season back around.

It'll be a great day for Hockey at Lambeau!

What's in your wallet?

Hopefully it's your Pi card, because we're going South to sunny, warm Orlando, Florida for the Capital One Bowl and to hopefully get our vengeance from the Music City Bowl two years ago. It's going to be a tough game for our football team, though certainly possible, given the great season. As for the Band, we're looking to impress and win as well.

It's going to be a very busy four days down there, but there will doubtlessly be plenty of fun and shenanigans! Here are some of the things we'll be doing:

We had an amazing time last year at the Outback Bowl last year (thanks in large part to some wonderful Wisconsin winter weather), and hopefully this year's bowl will be just as exciting!

On Wis!

It's that time of year again for champagne, shaving cream, and extreme-prepare knee-bows. Time for an incredibly silly half time show leading up to the On Wis Finale! Also with this time of year is the fact that this will be the last home game for a couple saxophone seniors. Time go out on that field and lay it all down and make this last game memorable!

And let's not forget how big this game is for the football players either! At stake is their second consecutive undefeated home season, an 11 game home winning streak, and even the possibility of a Big Ten title. Plus it's Barry's last game as head coach, and given the amazing things he's done for the team, it would be wonderful for him to leave on a high note.

And don't forget about the skating Badgers either! The hockey team came out tonight with a tie against the top team in the nation Colorado College. Let's hope for a win tomorrow night!

Road Trip Blows!

The challenge before the Badgers on Saturday in their quest to keep the Axe was formidable--history tells us the home team has a huge advantage in this huge rivalry, and after Bucky's disappointing loss to Northwestern the previous week, could they rebound back and get the Gophers? Not to mention the bitter memories of the last second field goal loss two years ago, when the band last made the trip to the Metrodome.

Well, it certainly looked bleak for the Badgers going into the fourth quarter, but like last week, the team stepped it up at the end; and unlike last week, a lucky break--a blocked punt--sealed the victory for the Badgers in the most stunning win for Paul Bunyan's Axe.

And that's where the Badger Band comes in. They took a trip up to the Palodrome to "Rock" the house and show those Gophers just who's boss of the Big Ten! We took their field and laid it all out, then we had a great time all over it for Fifth Quarter (their band decided to leave right at the end). All in all, a great way to spend a beautiful, warm autumn Saturday indoors.

What the hell's a Hoosier?

It's the battle of Big 10 Undefeateds when the Indiana Hoosiers make a stop at Camp Randall this weekend to take on the Badgers. And Bucky's eager for a win--it's been five years since the Badgers last beat them. Everyone's still got some adrenaline flowing from last week's stunning come-back victory under the lights, and let's hope that momentum continues. Hoosier daddy!?

For all you international Badgers out there, our show this week is On Wisconsin in many styles and colors. On and On (and On) Wisconsin! If you want a sneak preview, check out the cinematic masterpiece known as "March On, Wisconsin". As if you didn't hear enough On Wisconsin at the games already...

Are You Ready?

Flashback to the 2003 Ohio State night game

Tonight, Camp Randall will be electrified with 80,000 screaming, drunk, rowdy fans for the Big 10 Opener and a heated battle with Michigan, whom all Badger fans hate with a fervid passion. Remember the OSU game two years ago?

And the Band's ready to kick some Wolverine ass with The Phantom of the Opera, an amazingly beautiful and powerful show. Guest soloists, flash cubes, some other "flare" in addition to the normal intense Badger Band style will give Ann Arbor a taste of what it deserves.

And, as I'm sure you are all aware, Ann Arbor is a whore.

What sucked most last Saturday?

Whichever it was, the game was an almost-boring tromp over a football team with absolutely no hope to begin with. Regardless, the Band came and performed at its top level with a grab bag collection of Rock tunes. In the Band, there are no gimmie-games; every performance matters!

Green Bay East West Game

This coming weekend sees a trip up to Green Bay, but not for our beloved Packers. The Badger Band will be ripping up the field at the "historic" Green Bay East vs. West High Schools game. Time to go up there and show Green Bay why we're a kick ass band!

Most of the section, however, will not be traveling up on the Bookmobile, or any bus for that matter. They'll be hanging out and having a good time at the world-famous Palo-pad, home of Palomino, Palomini, and the Palopadres. What sort of fun and craziness will ensue? You'll have to be there.

Green and Blues

With some luck, Bowling Green will be singing the Blues tomorrow in the Badgers' season opener at legendary Camp Randall. The UW Band certainly will, with guest soloist Westside Andy.

This Saturday won't be a normal looking game either--the players will be in their throwback jerseys, the stadium is in its finished glory, and the Band will be sitting for the first time up in the stands. Don't fear though, even though in the stands we'll look a bit more high schoolish, we certainly won't march like it. It's time to Eat a Rock, baby! (Even if the sign is missing....)

Reg Week is coming...

Temporary Tower

...you should probably go pay the pardoner. Sure as hell it will be hot, so gob on that sunscreen, drink a couple gallons of water, and get ready to suffer! Aloe vera, Bengay, and bananas will become your best friends soon enough.

It won't be a completely normal Reg Week though, as there's a change of practice scenery for this season. The old beloved field is torn up in preparation for turf next year, so this year we get to practice out in BFE behind the Waisman Center! Will that stop all fun of Reg Week? Hell no!
